UMBC Hero: Yasmin

Yasmin fights invasive species. She's also a history major. Yasmin combines a love for the environment and a passion for social change to create a unique student experience. She also organizes Alternative Spring Breaks and works in local parks to stop invasive plant life. Social change at UMBC is not just a hobby. It's the key to turning passion into a career for life.

UMBC Hero: Curtis

Curtis swings for the fences. He's also an economics whiz. When Curtis isn’t playing third base, he’s mentoring inner-city kids and dreaming of getting his M.B.A to make an impact in children's lives. He has only nine innings to help his team win the game but an entire lifetime to make a difference in the world.


UMBC Hero: Stefanie

Stefanie fights for fair labor. She’s also a Media and Communications major. Stefanie helped bring fair labor merchandise to the UMBC bookstore with the aid of the student-run Solidarity Coalition. When she isn’t raising awareness about mistreated workers, Stefanie is a blogger, photographer and graphic designer. You’ll find many students like Stefanie at UMBC, where art and politics mix in a student community dedicated to making a difference.

Holly helped teach linguistics in South Africa. She also plays Ultimate Frisbee. Holly shared her passion for English and linguistics during a semester in South Africa. At home, her love of teaching and sports keep her connected our dynamic community. Holly is ready to see the world. UMBC is giving her the tools to change it.
